Personnel

Note

During this concert when Stuart Hamm's name is announced, it often sounds like the crowd is "boo"ing him. They are not "boo"ing him, but rather "Stu"ing him- early in their touring days in the late 1980s after a concert when Hamm's name was announced, the crowd was cheering "Hamm, Hamm, Hamm". Guitarist Steve Vai grabbed the mic and yelled "Stuuuuuuu". The yell stuck ever since. Joe Satriani notes in this Live in San Francisco concert, "They 'Stu' him because they love him".

However, it must be noted that there are a minority of Satriani's older fans who use the "Stuuuuu" cheer to actually boo Hamm, for a number of reasons, one of which is that some of Satriani's fans don't believe that Hamm is as good a bass player as Matt Bissonette (at the 2008 Satriani Satchafunkilus tour in Manchester, UK, there were at least 2 people holding up signs reading "Where's Matt?" and "Bring back Matt", referring to Bissonette). Another reason for the booing is that many fans who have attended multiple Satriani concerts notice that Hamm's bass solo has remained exactly the same over the years, unlike other virtuosic bass players who improvise at least part of their solos as opposed to playing a pre-notated solo.
